Martin Mellado Arteche es Licenciado en Informática (1987) por la Facultad de Informática de la UPV recibiendo el Segundo Premio Nacional de Estudios en Informática, Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. Obtuvo el título Master of Science in Computer Aided Engineering (1989) en la School of Mechanical Engnieering, Cranfield Institute of Technology (Reino Unido) donde fue premiado a la mejor Tesis con el premio Ellis Horwood Prize. Se doctoró en Informática por la UPV en 1996.


De 1989 a 1999 fue Titular de Escuela Universitaria, siendo desde entonces Titular de Universidad en el DISA donde ha sido durante 8 años subdirector del Programa Máster en CAD/CAM/CIM. El Doctor Mellado ha enseñado robótica en diversas escuelas de su Universidad, principalmente en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Informática (anterior Facultad de Informática) donde ha obtenido el “Premio a la Excelencia Docente” en los años 2000 y 2002.

Ha organizado e impartido cerca de 20 cursos nacionales y 5 internacionales en robótica. Desde 1997 imparte asignaturas en el Programa de Doctorado en Automática, Robótica e Informática Industrial de la UPV, dirigiendo varias tesis doctorales. Ha impartido varias conferencias nacionales e internacionales como profesor invitado.


En 2004 ha sido distinguido con la Medalla de Honor por la Technische Universität Kaiserslautern de Alemania.


Martin Mellado ha dirigido y participado en proyectos nacionales y europeos así como de transferencia tecnológica, dando lugar a la publicación de más de 50 artículos en congresos internacionales, libros y contribuciones en revistas. En 1997 y 1999 realizó estancias de 6 y 2 meses como investigador visitante invitado en el Joint Research Centre de la Unión Europea. Sus intereses de investigación incluyen la manipulación especial de alimentos, la robótica móvil y la robótica humanoide, habiendo sido por 6 años responsable del Grupo de Investigación en Robótica del Instituto ai2, instituto del que es secretario actualmente y desde 2004.

Martin Mellado received the B.Eng. in Computer Science from the Facultad de Informática, UPV, Spain in 1987 (awarded with the second national prize of Computer Studies, Ministry of Education and Science), the MSc degree in Computer Aided Engineering from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Cranfield Institute of Technology, UK (awarded with the Ellis Horwood Prize to the best Thesis) in 1989 and the PhD degree in Computer Engineering in the  UPV in 1996.


During 1989-1999 he was an Assistant Professor and from then an Associated Professor always at DISA. He has been also Sub-director of the MSc Course in CAD/CAM/CIM at the same University for eight years. He teaches robotics subjects in several Schools from his University, mainly in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Informática (previously Facultad de Informática),

where he has been awarded with the

“Excellence Teaching Prize” in the years 2000 and 2002. In addition, he has organized and imparted nearly 20 national and 5 international courses on robotics. Since 1997 he is also imparting subjects about robotics in the PhD course in

Automatics, Robotics and Industrial Informatics in UPV, directing some PhD Thesis. He has imparted some national and international conferences as invited professor.

Dr. Mellado has leaded and contributed to some National and European research and development projects as well as technological transfer projects, resulting in the publication of more than 50 papers in international conferences, books and contributions in journals. During 1997 and 1999, he has been 6 and 2 months as a visiting scientist in the European Commission Joint Research Centre at Ispra, Italy. His research interests include special manipulation for food products, mobile robotics and humanoid robotics, being during 6 years the head of the Robotics Research Group of the Institute ai2, institute where he works as secretary nowadays and since 2004.
