Abstract:
A steering operation interface has been designed for disabled people that uses gesture operation. It incorporates both non-linear and semi-automatic steering control. Experiments using a gyro sensor and a driving simulator demonstrated that the driving operation is close to that achieved with conventional steering wheel operation. Sufficient practice in using the proposed interface should therefore enable a user to achieve steering control closer to that achieved with a steering wheel.
