This paper introduces an idea of a Sensory Substitution Device (SSD), which supports everyday conversations by conveying to the user the emotional valence of its interlocutor. It describes the work in progress of a SSD prototype design that aims to remap visual stimuli into tactile information, by utilizing the Facial Action Coding System (FACS).
