Testing the Reconfiguration of Adaptive Systems

Abstract:
Adaptive systems can change their internal structure in order to respond to changes in their environment. These changes can cause malfunctions if not applied correctly. Current test approaches do not cover every aspect of the reconfiguration sufficiently. In this paper, we present a novel approach for testing the reconfiguration process of adaptive systems with respect to structural changes. The approach presents testers with guidelines for choosing the appropriate test strategy for a certain aspect, such as order of reconfiguration, state transfer, and transaction handling, of the reconfiguration procedure.
