Abstract:
Currently cloud infrastructures are in the spotlight of computer science. Through offering on-demand resource provisioning capabilities and high flexibility of management cloud-based systems can seamlessly adjust to the constantly changing environment of the Internet. They can automatically scale according to a chosen policy. Despite the usefulness of the currently available tools in this area there is still much space for improvements. In this paper we introduce a novel approach to automatic infrastructure scaling, based on the observation of business-related metrics. We present details on a tool based on this concept, which uses a semantic-based monitoring and management system, called SAMM. At the end we discuss the capabilities of the new mechanisms.
