Blocking Probabilities in Multicast WDM Optical Networks With First-Fit Wavelength Assignment

Abstract:
We present an approximate analytical method to evaluate the blocking probabilities in multicast Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks without wavelength converters. Our approach is based on iteratively solving the multicast call blocking probabilities for fixed routing with First-Fit wavelength assignment algorithm. We divide the WDM network into layers (colors) and we use the moment matching method to characterize the overflow traffic from one layer to another. Analyzing blocking probabilities in each layer of the network is derived from an exact approach. Results are presented which indicate the accuracy of our method.
