TeleMedSys - Web-based Telemedicine System to Support Diagnosis in Rural Areas

Abstract:
This article describes the concept for a web-based telemedical system for use in rural areas with limited communication infrastructures and a lack of medical professionals. The TeleMedSys consists of a patient management system and a medical device system that are available to the doctor and the patient-side assistant during treatment via an Internet browser. The combination of local and remote web applications enables a seamless integration of the medical devices required at the patient’s location into the doctor’s remote station based on browser technology. The implementation of this system represents an improvement in the living conditions of populations in rural areas.
