An Overview of Technology-Driven Care Solutions for Seniors in Aging Societies

Abstract:
Aging populations are putting a strain on professional care facilities. Technology can ease this strain while at the same time improving the quality of life for senior citizens. Using robotic home companions and utilising sensors to monitor and improve the life of seniors, it is possible to help caregivers target their efforts to be more effective. It is important to observe privacy concerns while developing these technologies to ensure acceptance by the end users. In this work, we provide an overview of such technologies already in place and discuss their limitations. This is done by surveying relevant literature. Findings show that the available technologies are still far from solving the current challenges.
