Abstract:
Users interact with many applications and user interfaces, optionally involving additional user interface components such as assistive technologies. Adaptations of user interfaces, including the activation of assistive technologies, typically require the user to perform manual adaptations for every new device and application. It would be beneficial for the user, if adaptation data could be automatically collected and stored in a standardized way, to be utilized by any device and application the user interacts with. In this paper we present a new approach for user interface adaptation, based on statistical methods. These methods operate on an extended set of user interaction-related properties, which may be part of user profiles. We plan to implement this approach in a prototype on real user data and evaluate its results against manual adaptations by user interface experts.
