Abstract:
A rehabilitation program was developed and applied using the recent development of Kinect motion capture technology. We tested the use of Kinect in the rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities (the elderly in our case). The rehabilitation takes advantage of Kinect without requiring a controller and the intuitive use of Kinect through physical gestures. Evaluation of an improved program in a second test identified new ways of using Kinect in future tests and as an exercise aid for the test subjects. Survey results collected following the tests indicate that many subjects were interested in the program as a new application, and the program encouraged exercise by reminding the subjects of when they were young.
