Abstract:
One of the challenges in AAL and smart homes is the delivery of user interfaces that accommodate the needs and preferences of a diverse group of users for providing a "personal" user interface. Various technical solutions and frameworks for adaptive user interfaces have been proposed in the past. In this paper, we describe a smart house demo application within the Cloud4all research project. This demo combines the Universal Remote Console (URC) approach for pluggable user interfaces with an adapt-at-runtime approach of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII), thus enabling the provision of personal user interfaces that can be fine-tuned to fit a specific runtime context. Some preliminary example user interfaces for smart house appliances are provided.
