Abstract:
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been with us now since the 25th May 2018. It is certainly the case that in many of the 28 EU countries, regulators were not all properly resourced by the starting deadline. However, progress has been made since then. We review the challenges faced by cloud users, and consider whether all the compliance challenges existent then have persisted, and whether there are any other challenges that have evolved. We examine the most serious risks faced by cloud users and consider how users might mitigate their exposure to these hard problems. We provide a series of practical solutions which might help them to keep abreast with these issues while proper long term solutions can be found.
