Abstract:
Ontological Semantic Technology is a mature theory that we have developed for 30 and 14 years, respectively to the co-authors, and it has been demonstrated to represent the meaning of text well. Designed first as an engineering ontology for natural language computer applications, it became a paradigm for theoretical, as well as computational semantics. This paper claims that it is also a legitimate approach to a much larger cognitive task of representing the human knowledge of the world in the computer, without which text understanding is unattainable.
