Abstract:
Document indexing is mostly a human task, where human indexers assign the most appropriate keywords to texts in order to represent or categorize their contents. It is usually performed as an individual manual task. In this paper we propose an extension where this process is enhanced with two main features: automatic classification, to support the knowledge of the expert, and collaboration between indexers, in order to obtain a more accurate result in the categorization. Then, we present a new approach called {em Collaborative Document Classification}, describing their main elements and functionalities, as well as an application to the context of the political initiative indexing problem in the Andalusian Parliament. A computer simulation has been carried out with the aim of determining in a lab environment the possible benefits of this new approach, concluding that in several ways, the collaborative classification improves the indexing task.
