Abstract:
Mobility in industrialized nations is characterized by individ-ual transport. Especially since the 50`s of the last century, individual mobility is based on automobility. The age of auto-mobility still influences and shapes the infrastructure devel-opment of our cities. While the model of a car-friendly city has evolved a lot, it does not seem to be capable to generate efficient means of transport. This becomes worse in emerging metropolitan areas with large growth rates. Besides conges-tion, pollution is a main issue, especially in fast growing met-ropolitan areas. Nowadays, a lot of new mobility services are offered through the internet. Besides mobility based on cars, these services incorporate intermodal mobility, as well as third domain offers, which may reduce our individual mobili-ty. In this article, we will provide an overview of such services and derive insights about their possible impact.
