Abstract:
As part of the tools of the recent global boom in the democratization of knowledge, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have been giving growing support to participation in cultural heritage. This paper presents “Ahkili Aliha”, an event during which tribunes of speech were open to the inhabitants of Kairouan, Tunisia, serving the (re)promotion of the patrimonial site of Kairouan through the promotion of oral heritage and collective memory. Based on the Ahkili Aliha event case study, the main objective of this research is to examine the relevance and contribution of participation and ICT for the promotion of oral heritage and consequently the promotion of built heritage of patrimonial sites. The study presents critical analyses of the linearity of the patrimonialization process in old Tunisian cities and considers the role of participation and ICT in resuming paused or incomplete patrimonialization processes.
