Abstract:
The Integrity of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) as, e.g., industrial Internet of Things systems or automation and control systems for monitoring and controlling technical processes has to be protected to ensure a reliable operation. This becomes increasingly challenging with systems that are flexibly updated and reconfigured to address evolving demands. This paper describes an approach for integrity monitoring for such dynamic systems. Instead of detecting changes to a CPS as integrity violation, the focus is on checking whether detected changes are in-line with a policy defining permitted changes. A key element is a reliable device lifecycle state attestation, so that a monitoring system can determine the current device configuration state and the way in which it was changed due to reconfigurations.
