Abstract:
Given the high demand for qualified computer scientists, understanding young adults' career decisions in this field is crucial to ensuring an adequate talent supply. Despite the high demand, women remain underrepresented. This paper examines one particular influencing factor: technology exposure. Based on quantitative data from over 800 young people in Germany, it analyzes how the availability of information and communication technology affects young adults’ perception of their skills, abilities, and competence in the field of computer science. Special emphasis is placed on gender differences within this context of digitization adoption.
