A New Internet of Things Architecture with Cross-Layer Communication

Abstract:
This paper describes a new Internet of Things architecture with cross-layer communication. This architecture shows the importance of cross-layer communication between physical, middleware and application layer and explores this functionality to improve the decision make process. Our implementation extends the LinkSmart Middleware, aggregates pattern recognition services to the middleware and introduces a cross-layer communication structure and associate parameters. The cross-layer communication permits to modify the behaviour of the middleware and physical layers by means of control functionalities implemented in the application layer. In this paper, we validate the cross-layer communication in a new IoT architecture with pattern recognition services. We develop an application, that used a real database.
