Abstract:
Smart grid will soon be a reality. As a result of connecting the traditional power grid to networks, all the vulnerabilities related to information technology will be inherited by the smart grid. Hence, the smart grid must be protected against various cyber-attacks. An essential component of the smart grid is the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). In an attempt to protect smart meters’ communication with the collector, two security schemes based on PKI are introduced in this paper. The security requirements of confidentiality, integrity, and nonrepudiation are analyzed with respect to these schemes.
