Abstract:
Software-Defined Networking (SDN) offers the possibility to carry out a more direct control of network behavior and to interact directly with the elements of the network. In this paper, the problem of optimizing the power consumption in SDN networks is addressed by looking for the most appropriate set of active switches and links, their associated rates, and the number of flow entries at each SDN switch. We present a formulation for this optimization problem and a heuristic algorithm to reduce time complexity in large topologies. Energy saving values of more than 40% are reached using real traffic demands data.
