Abstract:
This paper proposes a research agenda exploring how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) can help explain patient medical records, particularly to the patients of non-medical practitioners. While patient access to records is expanding globally, little is known about how this access supports care beyond primary care doctors, or how GAI tools like ChatGPT may assist in interpretation. We outline key research questions and argue for co-designed solutions that include nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals to ensure accessible, equitable, and scalable approaches to explainability in digital health.
