Spatio-Temporal Big Data Standards: Status and Progress

Abstract:
In standardization, the term coverage captures the digital representation of space/time-varying phenomena. Coverages are supported by a mature set of standards, maintained in a continuous cooperation of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and with manifold uptake and implementation. At its heart is the OGC/ISO Coverage Implementation Schema (CIS) data standard. We give a condensed overview the CIS standard and its current progress, looking at the ISO 19123-1 concepts and their realization with ISO 19123-2. We do this in our capacity as primary editor of the standards discussed.
