Abstract:
The success of medical research projects depends on efficient and powerful information systems. To assess the needed range of functionalities of such systems, we developed the evidence-based checklist with items for patient registry software systems (CIPROS), consisting of 72 items, organized within 12 aspects/topics. In this paper, we demonstrate how CIPROS can be used to assess the functionality of an information system. To this end, we evaluated an in-house electronic data capture (EDC) system database form generator (DBFORM). The assessment is helpful for project managers and medical scientists to select EDC systems for their own projects. The assessment may also help system developers to assess their systems and inspire them to develop new features. It may also be an efficient tool to evaluate research proposals with respect to the suitability of the selected software.
