Abstract:
This paper proposes a new approach to develop autonomic systems or transform traditional systems into autonomic ones. This approach is based on defining the autonomic module of the system as a combinatorial optimization problem. After that, a wide range of different techniques can be used to implement the autonomic module of the system. This study addresses two major problems: autonomic system specification and autonomic system evaluation. The former helps the developer to understand the system goals, constraints and scope, the latter, helps the developer quantitatively evaluate the efficiency of different techniques of implementing the autonomic module of the system. A case study demonstrates the viability and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
