Abstract:
This paper investigates the flight planning for unmanned aerial vehicles. It proposes a prototype of preflight planner for different models of unmanned aircrafts. The planner is able to take into account several constraints (e.g., the vehicle dynamics, the no-fly zones, the endurance, the feasibility of the mission objectives, the terrain separation, etc.). It also provides a quantitative estimation of the air data link coverage and of the National Imagery Interpretability Rating Scale (NIIRS) index for the images quality. An overview of the prototype is reported and some significant test results are discussed in order to show its features.
