Detection of a Rogue Switch in a Local Area Network

Abstract:
There are many solutions available for detecting a rogue wireless access point, but none exists for detecting a rogue switch or a router in a wired environment. This is at least in part due to the implicit assumption that a wired environment is safer. In this paper, we present three solutions to detect a rogue Ethernet switch. Each of these solutions has its advantages and may be used independently of the others. We prove that our approach is practical and feasible by simulation and analysis of our solutions.
