Abstract:
In the current era of Cloud Computing, Big Data and always-connected devices and apps, it is critical that the data that reside on networks be secured by robust techniques and protocols. As the data are highly distributed and voluminous, the security measures should employ methods that efficiently and rapidly encrypt data. This calls for scaling the model up to employ a distributed programming paradigm, so that the utilization of resources (computing and storage) on the network is high and channeled for processing in an optimum way. Exploring the idea of distributed cryptography might hold solutions to address this potential problem. We have tried to probe in this direction by building a distributed and flexible cryptosystem that employs a parallelized version of the AES algorithm. The results obtained emphasize the performance gains, agility, flexibility and scalability of the concept of cryptography using distributed systems.
