Abstract:
MAC protocols for multimedia traffic transmission in mobile ad hoc networks have been studied steadily. It is still challenging to design an efficient protocol due to limited resource and multi-hop transmission property. CSMA-based MAC protocol is not suitable for multimedia traffic transmission due to hop-by-hop contention and collision. TDMA-based MAC protocol is appropriate to transmit time-sensitive traffic but slot allocation and sharing of slot information mechanism is essential. In this paper we propose a novel TDMA MAC protocol for mobile ad hoc networks, which includes distributed resource reservation and resource state sharing mechanism. In addition, we present an efficient collision resolution method. We show that our proposed TDMA MAC is suitable for delay-sensitive data transmission via simulations.
