Abstract:
Extending the battery lifetime of energy constrained devices is a key issue in designing wireless adhoc networks. The existing works focus on using cooperative communications for improving network performance in terms of throughput, delay, spectral efficiency, etc. In this paper, we propose a distributed cross layer cooperative Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for a multihop network environment that can improve the network lifetime and energy efficiency while not degrading the network throughput and end to end delay. The results show that the proposed protocol can improve the performance of the network in terms of network lifetime, throughput, end-to-end delay, and energy efficiency.
