Abstract:
Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) migrate today towards emergent Internet of Vehicles (IoV), which promises advanced commercial and technical capabilities. IoV can be supported by other novel technologies like Cloud/Fog computing, Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). However, a challenge in terms of cooperation is related to the distributed characteristic of IoV and logical centralization concept in SDN. A physically distributed SDN control plane could be a solution. This paper is a preliminary work proposing an IoV Fog-based architecture and a distributed SDN control plane. A specific problem is solved, to optimize the geographic placement of the SDN controllers based on multi-criteria optimization algorithms.
