Routing optimization in the transmission network

Abstract:
This paper describes a method to optimize the route lookup in a multivendor data transmission network built on Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technologies. The optimization is carried out in terms of time reduction, thereby having a wide field of application in network operation: restoring service after a failure, traffic redistribution scenarios, etc. The algorithm encompasses different aspects such as: number of routes to lookup, network structure, technological characteristics of routes, and situation of elements, all of them related to technical objectives. It also aims at integrating other features embodying other objectives apart from the aforementioned technical ones.
