Performance Analysis of a Full Duplex MAC Protocol with Binary Exponential Backoff

Abstract:
The full duplex mode in wireless communication allows simultaneous data transmission and reception on a single channel,hence increasing the data rate and reducing the access delay. In this paper, we propose a TDMA-based medium access control protocol to realize the benefit of full duplex communication. This protocol deploys the binary exponential backoff mechanism to resolve contention. We develop an analytical model to evaluate its performance. This protocol is suitable for future generations of mobile telecommunication networks, such as 5G networks.
