Abstract:
In the context of a project regarding a traffic light assistant on smart phones, a survey about ownership, usage in relation to traffic and car issues as well as acceptance of a potential traffic light assistant was carried out. The survey was conducted as a paper-based poll as well as online. 694 people took part. The user’s need to browse social media while driving, as is sometimes mentioned in distraction debates, could not be found. The idea of a traffic light assistant on a smart phone (as a guide to the next green phase, or inform the driver to decelerate the car early) had different acceptance rates among males and females, and was more acceptable to men.
