Abstract:
Integrating medical software into the healthcare system began as a way to reduce medical errors and simplify procedures. However, medical software-related errors have been a source of concern for both physicians and patients. Software-related medical errors have affected clinical decisions, which threaten patient safety. This paper explores the potential sources of unintended negative consequences associated with medical software. We used systems thinking methods to explore the relationship between software-related errors and their overall impact. We also developed insights into how to improve patient safety by eliminating software-related medical errors system-wide.
