Rotating magnetic field assisted formation of highly ordered two-dimensional magnetic bead arrays

Abstract:
The authors present a method for the formation of highly ordered two-dimensional arrays of magnetic beads based on dipolar particle interactions in rotating magnetic fields. Growth mechanisms of the arrays inside the carrier liquid are presented. After evaporation of the carrier liquid, the resulting bead monolayers on silicon substrates are analyzed with respect to size and defect structure.
