Reservoir Rock Microstructure Evaluation by X-ray Microtomography

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to evaluate the quantification process of geometric parameters such as material volume, when different computed microtomography spatial resolutions are employed. To this end, two reservoir rock samples were scanned with a three-dimensional high energy computed microtomography system. The results show a strong difference in the acquisition, reconstruction and image processing times, but do not present a significant loss of information on the micro structural parameters such as porosity between the two resolutions.
