Towards an Open Smart City Notification Service

Abstract:
Heterogeneity is a critical barrier to event processing in Smart Cities. Over the past few years many techniques have been proposed for message exchange between specific domains systems. However, identifying the context for all kinds of events is hampered due to the large number of protocols and formats that exist. Under these circumstances, this paper proposes a middleware for analyzing multiple events and to infer their respective contexts, thereby providing a flexible way of communication between distributed systems in different domains of a Smart City. Our studies have lead us to believe in the feasibility of the proposed approach, for it is an approach which reduces the burden of implementing/mapping all of the existing formats which can be activated in a given situation.
