Abstract:
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has advanced considerably over the last decade, and has become one of the dominate technologies to realize emerging Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The increasing demand for adopting RFID coupled with the diverse types of RFID systems (e.g., readers and tags) gave rise to the challenging problem of integration of heterogeneous RFID systems. Accordingly, RFID middleware technologies have received an increasing attention in both research and industry community. This paper reviews existing main RFID middleware systems and compares their main features. Observations regarding the capability of existing middleware systems are also discussed.
