Abstract:
This paper investigates the choice of routing algorithms for a CoAP-UDP stack for a internet-enabled Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) running an application for emergency monitoring and evacuation of people in a building. The routing protocols considered belong to two classes: proactive protocols (CTP, RPL) and reactive protocols (AODV, DSR). The emergency monitoring and evacuation scenario, running on a WSN with a full stack, was modelled and simulated in the SpeckSim behavioural simulator. The results of our study demonstrated that AODV would be the protocol of choice for the chosen application. The methodology advocated is sufficiently general for investigating protocol choices for other applications.
