Abstract:
In the context of an integrated water management project, we derive an analysis based on numerical modelling for throughput estimation in an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless sensor network (WSN). It takes into account the number of nodes in a cluster network, as well as transmitted packet size. We focus on the IEEE 802.15.4 compliant slotted Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) algorithm. Theoretical estimations are verified using the ns-2 network simulator. The configuration examined is a chain network formed by wireless sensor nodes where the first node is the source of data packets and the last is the traffic sink. Simulation results show that there is a satisfactory approximation between the theoretically estimated and the simulated values.
