Authors:
Iryna Lishchuk

Keywords: copyright ownership; data sharing; data driven software; sharing of rights

Abstract:
This paper investigates the nature of collaborative research projects in terms of software copyright and data ownership. It discusses and seeks to answer such questions as: Who owns copyright in collaborative software development? If several partners contribute into the software toolkit, how do they share copyright? If data driven software is developed and trained against personal data, does it affect copyright ownership? How data providers and developers share the rights? The legal analysis is made against research action undertaken in the medical research project HarmonicSS, supported by case studies from open source projects.
