Abstract:
In this paper, a new method to automate the tuning process of PID controllers is presented. The designed method, based on genetic algorithms, tunes PID systems that control the QoS requirements in Long-Reach PONs. This new tuning technique has been compared with the manual Ziegler-Nichols frequency response method. The simulation results have demonstrated that the new technique efficiently automates the tuning process, which leads to a reduction in the tuning time and a higher accuracy.
