Abstract:
In this paper, we propose and evaluate two algorithms for session management of a variable bit rate video session over a multi-channel network. The session manager decides how many channels should be active in the next time interval on the basis of required video bit rate, session measurement reports and other considerations. The algorithms performance is evaluated against a fixed selection of the number of active channels. Simulation results reveal that it is possible to control the session costs in terms of the number of active channels while keeping the quality of the received video stream on the top Mean Opinion Score (MOS) level. System performance significantly improved in the feedback-based managed session, as compared to the simple-managed session and to the fixed selection of the number of active channels sessions.
