Abstract:
Providing feedback is crucial in the language learning process. In time, formative feedback, both manual and automated can help both learners and teachers confirm the ongoing acquisition of language. However, little research has been done on either manual or automated formative feedback in actual foreign language classroom. In this paper, we elaborate on how to track learners’ acquisition for formative feedback by developing a system for foreign language writing. The system is implemented based on the results of an analysis of data collected from conventional face-to-face classrooms in Chinese learning. We have previously reported on a part of the system, and in this paper we extend our study, especially concerning the pre-processing algorithm.
