The Multidimensional Screen Model

Abstract:
The visual dimensions of the screen can be projected along the axes of aesthetics, use, or interaction. Each axis plays a crucial role in shaping the design interface practically. These practices are brought to life through various design techniques. A thorough exploration of these dimensions reveals the nuanced experience of the screen’s multidimensionality, taking into account both the designer and the interactor realm. The result is a model that delineates three aspects of the multidimensionality of the screen: space, which represents the realm of the designer; meaning, which serves as a shared realm between the designer and the interactor; and performance, which pertains to the interactor’s realm. The model has implications for the teaching and practice of design, as it supports the understanding, analysis, and design of the multidimensionality of the screen.
