The Inertia of the Status Quo:A Change Management Analysis of Technological Innovation

Authors:

Keywords: acceptance of innovative technologies, change management, an ehealth data records system

Abstract:
A reanalysis of the lack of acceptance of an ehealth data records system utilizing the tenets of change management reveals fundamental issues surrounding the challenges facing the introduction of new technologies in health care. Even though the design of the system was largely driven by the end-users themselves, ultimately these same individuals rejected the system once a series of pilot studies ended. The findings from these studies suggest that the key element for the successful introduction of a new technology is the necessity to overcome the inertia of people not wanting to change how they do their jobs, not the technology itself.
