Abstract:
There is a fast-growing number of relatively capable Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices out there. These devices are generally unattended and also relatively vulnerable. The current practice of deploying, and then leaving the devices unattended and unmanaged is not future proof. There is an urgent need for well- defined security update and incident management procedures for these devices. Sensible and secure default settings, as well as built- in privacy must also be included. This is particularly important since the devices are managed by non-professionals. This paper presents an outline of a model to cater to these needs.
