Abstract:
We study the distribution of file types classified by file extensions in usual file systems. In this paper, we report that the power-law distribution is observed in a certain file system and try to give the answer to the mechanism of that formation. In order to recognize the phenomena, we construct mathematical models and compare them to the results of Monte Carlo simulation. Then, we propose that file operation of creation and copy would form the distribution at the conclusion. This paper focuses on the formation of the power-law distribution by mathematical analysis and computer simulation.
