Practical Methodology for Adding New MANET Routing Protocols to OPNET Modeler

Abstract:
Optimized Network Engineering Tool (OPNET) Modeler is a comprehensive development environment that enables users to model communication networks and distributed systems by performing discrete event simulations. The OPNET Modeler accelerates the design and model of Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) routing protocols by providing tools for all phases, including model design, simulation, data collection, and data analysis. Using the already defined MANET routing protocols is straightforward, while modifying or extending them is a tricky process that can be time and effort consuming. This paper provides an overview of OPNET Modeler architecture and describes a practical methodology to add new MANET routing protocols to OPNET Modeler by using the Multi-Aware Cluster Head Maintenance (MACHM) as an implementation example.
